Friends on Friday is primarily a Group for over 60’s, but when we advertise our Meetings, if a subject is of interest to anyone else, you are most welcome to join us as a ‘one off’ or more regularly. They are all Open Meetings, held in the Church Hall, Main Street, Grove. The 1st Friday of the month meeting has a varied social programme while on the 3rd Friday we hold an informal Holy Communion with hymns. Both run from 2.00 – 3.30pm. We encourage a voluntary donation of £2 per meeting to cover overheads and speakers, but have also managed to give back a contribution to the Church each year to help with the expenses in hiring the Hall.
At every meeting, including the Communions, there is plenty of time to socialise and catch up with friends over a cup of tea and biscuits, or make new friends. Why not come along, and invite your friends and neighbours too?
Recent Meetings to Remember – Our newish! Associate Vicar Rev Miriam Jones joined us in May, sharing her interesting background and call to the Ordained Ministry. Thank you Miriam.
In June we played members choices of Musical Requests that included traditional hymns, modern worship songs, Acker Bilk and Jeremiah Clarke. Playing them all through the Church’s sound system was very powerful. This might well be repeated in the future.
We always enjoy celebrating with food and will accompany our Harvest Celebration 2nd October with the usual homemade apple pies having enjoyed our annual Strawberry Tea in July. Christmas Parties bring fun and Carols with lots of edible treats, but before that on 6 November we welcome Stewart Scott speaking about “Youth Work at Sea” – the role of the Morning Star Trust in developing Young People. (See September issue of The St John’s Messenger.) We trust that’s enough to whet your appetite.
We are often in need of more car transporters if anyone sees that as their ministry, since we would hate for anyone not to be able to join us because they haven’t got transport. Contact Peter or myself for more information if needed on any of the above. – Angela Rich
