Have you ever thought about the consequences of Global Warming and Climate Change in terms other than temperatures increasing? Most of us will be highly aware at present of the impact of prolonged high temperatures and of Wildfires both abroad and at home. But do you know about Tipping Points? And do you think of it as a Nature Crisis?
On 27 November 2025, leading experts set out the evidence on the climate and nature crisis in a formal briefing to UK national decision-makers in what was commissioned as The National Emergency Briefing.
A film of the talks was commissioned, presented by Chris Packham, which shows that the climate and nature crisis threatens all aspects of British life from national security to food supply, but also that solutions exist.
The Chair of the Briefing (see: https://www.nebriefing.org/vision) states: “The big picture of the climate and nature crisis is that humanity is currently on a deeply dangerous trajectory, with growing risks of severe societal and economic disruption. The interconnected threats to food systems, health, national security and global stability are no longer distant concerns, but increasingly part of our lived reality. Yet public understanding of these challenges remains low, and political systems often struggle to respond at the scale and speed required.”
Taken as a whole, the film raises issues that are profoundly scary, but the deeper hope behind it is that better-informed societies, and global society as a whole, is capable of the wiser, more compassionate and far-sighted choices required for humanity to thrive in the decades and centuries ahead. And that we may collectively find a way to make these choices whilst there is still time. The PCC is showing the film on behalf of the Deanery and Diocese. There will be a facilitated discussion (and refreshments!!) after the film.Although the Briefing Commissioners aim is to encourage people to call for a national briefing by Government, the discussion will aim to provide a Christian perspective. Eco Tip From the WWF
(see: https://www.wwf.org.uk/act/ways-to-help/wildlife-in-the-heat) – If you have a bird bath, make sure to top it up; create sheltered areas for wildlife to use in the heat; put a shallow bowl of water on the ground for hedgehogs; add a few stones to provide shallower pools from which insects, like the humble bumblebee, can drink.
